AR-11 Change of Address

Changing your address as a Green Card or US visa holder is a crucial step that ensures compliance with the regulations set forth by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). By promptly updating your address, you fulfill your legal obligation and help maintain accurate records within the immigration system.

Failure to update your address within the designated timeframe can have serious consequences. It may lead to communication gaps with USCIS, potentially causing delays in receiving important notifications, notices, or documents. Additionally, failure to comply with the address change requirement may result in penalties, which can range from fines to more severe repercussions affecting your immigration status.

To change your address, you need to submit the appropriate form known as the AR-11 form, which is specifically designed for Green Card and visa holders. The AR-11 form allows you to inform USCIS of your new address and ensures they have up-to-date contact information.

The process of changing your address involves accurately completing the AR-11 form, providing your personal details, current address, and new address. It is essential to include all necessary information to avoid any complications or delays in the process.

Once you have completed the form, you can submit it electronically or by mail, depending on the instructions provided by USCIS. It is crucial to follow the specified guidelines and ensure that the form reaches USCIS within the required timeframe to fulfill your obligation.

Notice of Change of Address applies to:

  • Nonimmigrant Visa Holders (visas such as F-1 visa, H-1B visa, etc.)
  • Green Card Holders (permanent United States residents)

The consequences of being out of status can lead to arrest, detention, fines, and/or removal, deportation from the United States. Future visa applications to enter the United States may also be impacted.
