Legal Disclaimer
US CitizenshipU.S. Citizenship is usually acquired by birth when the child is born in the territory of the United States. The 14th Amendment of the United States Constitution grants that right. Citizenship is the status given to a legal member of the country. It involves rights, duties and privileges.

If you were not born a citizen to the United States you must be naturalized to become one. This process is called naturalization. Download the United States Citizenship application to apply.

Benefits of U.S. Citizenship

There are many benefits of U.S. citizenship. Citizens cannot be prevented from re-entering the U.S. or be deported and U.S. citizens do not have to worry about renewing their Green Cards every ten years. U.S. citizens also receive U.S. Government protection when they are out of the country. Learn more about the US Citizenship Application process here. Eligibility for public benefits is available to U.S. citizens including Supplemental Security Income and Food Stamps, as well as certain types of educational scholarships and financial aid. Many financial aid grants, including college scholarships and government funds are available only to U.S. citizens. Other benefits are given to U.S. citizens by the U.S. Constitution such as the right to vote. You will be given the right to vote once you are naturalized and have received the Certificate of Naturalization.

Dual US Citizenship
The U.S. government allows Dual Citizenship. United States law recognizes Dual Citizenship, but the U.S. government does not encourage it is as a matter of policy due to the problems that may arise from it.

U.S. Citizenship Eligibility

U.S. citizenship eligibility comes with specific requirements, among them, to demonstrate good moral character. Spouses of U.S. Citizens or Green Card holders currently serving in the United States military may have naturalization requirements modified or waived.

Additional Citizenship Eligibility Requirements:
  • A period of continuous residence and physical presence in the United States
  • The ability to read, write and speak English
  • Knowledge of the principles of the U.S. Constitution
  • Favorable disposition towards the United States
  • Pass the United States Citizenship Test
