Green Card Not Received

Immigration Articles  >>  Green Cards  >>  Green Card Not Received
Legal Disclaimer
Green CardOccasionally a Green Card is never received even though the replacement or renewal application was approved and the Green Card issued by the USCIS. The reasons for this can be several including the new Green Card being mailed to the wrong address or stolen in the mail. However, what is important is that the Green Card holder is pro-active and tries to resolve the problem. Green Card holders should at all times be able to proof their legal status in the United States. There have been a number of immigration checkpoints and raids in different cities. In general, the consequences of not being able to proof your legal status may end up in deportation. However, it is unlikely that a legal green cardholder who is simply missing his or her Green Card will be deported, but he or she will most likely have to go through a thorough identification process and may be fined.

Another reason to be pro-active about a missing Green Card or Green Card not received is to make sure it is not stolen and misused. Identity theft is a major concern in the United States that causes a lot trouble for the unfortunate victims.

When a Green Card is never received, there are certain procedures to follow to get a new one issued. It is important to be aware of the application timelines and process so you know whether the green card is missing or not. For more information about how to request a new green card, download the Green Card Replacement Application Guide.
