Description:
Form I-130 may be completed by a citizen or lawful permanent resident of the United States who wants to petition for an alien relative to immigrate to the United States of America. For each eligible relative a separate Form I-130 needs to be filed. Form I-130 is just the first step in the process. After Form I-130 has been filed, each eligible family member has to wait before one can apply for an adjustment of status to become a lawful permanent resident or for an immigrant visa. A visa number must be available. Individuals that enter into a marriage contract for the purpose of evading immigration laws provisions may be fined $250,000 and/or be imprisoned for up to five years or both. Form I-130 (Petition for Alien Relative) may also be known as USCIS Form I-130, I 130, Form I130 or immigration form I-130.
