The
United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS, formerly INS) has
offices throughout the United States. There are several types of USCIS
immigration offices. Each of them performing very specific tasks, such a visa
extension, change of status, Green Card and Citizenship applications. It is
important to submit your application to the correct office, otherwise your
application may be delayed, returned to you and even denied.
Some USCIS offices are open to the public, while others are not. Please review
the list of immigration offices below.
- District Offices and Sub-Offices
Some District Offices also have Sub Offices that serve a portion of the
District's jurisdiction. Each local office handle scheduled interviews on
applications. You can schedule and appointment to speak to an Immigration
Officer by using INFOPass.
- Asylum Offices
Asylum offices only provide assistance with asylum-related applications.
Interviews for asylum are held at specific asylum offices. You may receive a
notice to appear at an Asylum Office for an interview regarding your
application. Failing to meet for your appointment will most likely delay your
application. It is strongly recommended to not reschedule or miss an appointment
with an Asylum Center. These centers are located throughout the United States,
and your notice to appear will indicate where and when to meet.
- Application Support Centers
Application Support Centers (ASC) provide fingerprinting and related application
services. You may receive a notice to appear at a local Application Support
Center for an interview regarding your application. Failing to meet for your
appointment will most likely delay your application. It is strongly recommended
to not reschedule or miss an appointment with an Application Support Center. ASCs are located throughout the United States, and your notice to appear will
indicate where and when to meet. Every information guide available on this
website contains a detailed list of every Application Support Center in the
United States.
- Field Offices
A field office primarily deals with applications that have problems or
petitions that are already filed. A field office provides supplemental services
and you may be called for an interview at one. Your notice to appear will give
the time and place to meet. A field office does not handle asylum-related
applications.
Our immigration guides (eBooks) contain a full list of all USCIS around the
country. Download any immigration guide on our website for an up-to-date list of
