  • Affidavit of Support: An Affidavit of Support is filed to prove that visa applicants have financial sponsorship and will not  become "public charges" once they are residing in the United States. There are two types of affidavits of support - Form I-134 Affidavit of Support and Form I-864 Affidavit of Support. Both affidavits serve similar purposes but are used for different applications.

  • Affidavit of Support Explanation: An Affidavit of Support is a legal document that provides proof of an applicant’s financial means of support. An Affidavit of Support, or form I-864, is required for many family-based and employment immigration applications.

  • Adjustment of Status: The process a nonimmigrant goes through to change his or her legal status to permanent resident. Not everyone qualifies for Adjustment of Status.

  • Advance Parole: Form I-131 (Application for Travel Document) is used to apply for a Reentry Permit, Refugee Travel Document, and Advance Parole. All these three different travel documents serve the same reason, to legally reenter the U.S., but are used for different applications

  • Form I-551: United States permanent residents have an identification card known as Form I-551. Other names for Form I-551 include: Green Card, immigrant visa, permanent visa, permanent resident card, and permanent resident visa

  • Form I-551 Alien Registration Card: Form I-551 is the official name of the Green Card or Alien Registration Card. A valid Form I-551 verifies that a person is lawfully admitted to the United States for permanent residence.

  • Green Card Not Received: Occasionally a Green Card is never received even though the replacement or renewal application was approved and the Green Card issued by the USCIS.

  • Green Cards: U.S. Green Cards are identification cards for lawful permanent residents of the United States. An immigrant usually has to go through a three-step process that may take several years depending on type of immigrant category and country of birth.

  • Labor Certification: A Labor Certification (LC) is different from the Labor Condition Application (LCA). A Labor Certification is used by an employer to sponsor a foreign worker with a Green Card, while the Labor Condition Application is necessary to obtain before applying  for a long-term work visa.

  • Renewing Green Cards Without an Expiration Date: A proposed USCIS rule would require all United States permanent residents with a green card without an expiration date to apply for a new and updated green card.

  • What is an Alien Registration Card?: United States permanent residents have an identification card known as the “Alien Registration Card.” Other names for the Alien Registration Card include the immigrant visa, permanent visa, permanent resident card, permanent resident visa, and form I-551. While permanent residents are not United States citizens, they are granted permission to reside and work in the United States on a permanent basis.

  • What is a Green Card?: United States permanent residents have an identification card known as the “Green Card.” Other names for the Green Card is include: immigrant visa, permanent visa, permanent resident card, permanent resident visa, and form I-551.

  • What is Permanent Resident Card?: United States permanent residents have an identification card known as the Permanent Resident Card. Other names for the Permanent Resident Card include:  immigrant visa, permanent visa, green card and permanent resident visa.
