  • Immigration Amnesty: Since the first immigration amnesty in 1986, millions of undocumented aliens (illegal immigrants) have been granted permanent resident in the United States. Critics claims that immigration amnesties entice an even greater number of illegal migrants, but there could be even more amnesties in the near future.

  • Immigration Reform: President Bush supports comprehensive immigration reform. Some of the proposals include: resolving the status of the millions of illegal immigrants already in the United States, encouraging illegal immigrants to assimilate, working on making the borders secure, introducing a temporary guest worker program and penalizing employers for willingly hiring illegal immigrants.

  • Guest Worker Program: A Guest Worker Program would allow as many as 200,000 low-skilled workers a year to come to the U.S. and do jobs for which companies can't find American workers.

  • Illegal Immigration to the United States: The United States government estimates that there are over 10 million illegal aliens living in the United States.

  • Illegal Immigration from Mexico to the United States: Mexicans who are caught illegally crossing the border are fingerprinted and immediately returned, unless they are a repeat offender, in which case they may be criminally prosecuted. The vast majority of illegal immigrants currently in the United States are from Mexico.

  • Z Visa: The Z visa comes with a fine of $5,000 per person, and the individual must return to their home country to legally be admitted into the United States.
